TopknotThe Hartz Topknot mutation is called Corona in the Gloster canary, Coppy in the Lancashire canary, and Crested in other breeds. This mutation is not sex-linked, therefore either the male or female can be topknot. The sexes can be reversed with the same results.
The gene that causes the topknot mutation is dominant, but a double dose is lethal. When one gene is inherited, the bird is topknot. If two genes are inherited, then the bird's skull is deformed and the chick usually dies in shell. From the results below it can be seen that you will not get any more live topknot chicks by breeding topknot to topknot, therefore this is not recommended.
