Buying Guide

I thought about adding the below info into the guide... but then I found this article that was already made on UAS... Pet Bird Buying Fact

Code: Select all
<br /><br />
'''Other things to do when looking at purchasing a bird:'''
* Is the bird healthy?
** Feathers in shape?
** Beak and nails not overgrown
** Feet and legs look fine
** If the bird is not healthy, can you afford large vet bills to ensure the bird is brought back to health?
** Eyes clear and bright?
* Is the bird on a healthy diet?
* Does the bird come with supplies?
** Proper sized cage?
** Proper types of perches?
** Various types of toys?
** Food and water dishes?
** If the bird doesn't come with any supplies, can you afford to put the bird in a proper enclosure with all the necessary supplies?
<br />
'''Things to ask the owner/seller:'''
* Why are you re-homing your bird?
* Is the bird a pet or breeder?
* Is the bird tamed or does it need work?
* Has the bird been to an avian vet within the past 6 months?
* Does the bird have any health problems?
* Are there any special foods or toys the bird enjoys best?
* Does the bird enjoy bathing of any sort?
<br />
'''Things to ask yourself:''' ''(reference Bob Wheeler, [http://www.onemorebird.com/2007/07/07/buying-at-bird-fairs/ "Buying Birds at Bird Fairs])''
* Are you looking for a pet or aviary type of bird?
* Can you afford this bird and all supplies?
** Can you afford the upkeep it will cost to care for the bird in the coming years?
* Do you have the space to put a cage and possibly a play-stand?
* Can you handle a bird that may need extra work in order to be tamed?
* Can you and anyone in your family handle the noise the bird may make?
** If you don't live alone, is everyone else in the household in agreement with you buying this bird?
** Do you have close neighbors who may be bothered by noise?
* Do you have other pets in the household that may need to learn and be taught on how to coexist with another species in the house?
* Will you have several hours each day to work and interact with the bird?

    I think that would be a good addition to the wiki. Do you need help adding it in? If so, either contact me via PM or on the IRC server (in beta right now, let me know if you need access) and I can give you a hand. =)

    Thanks,

    Damian
    The key to happiness is to avoid ever putting salt in your eye. Not matter how tempted and curious you may be, consider it unwise. Those who are still willing to attempt such a feat should at the very least have a video recording system handy so others may benefit by watching your mistake take place...

    I figured out most of it, actually! It doesn't seem like one has all the features (i.e. references) but after finding the pet buyers guide (http://www.upatsix.com/faq/buying.htm) I wasn't sure that all I had put together (thus far) would be needed... of course I could also use that article as a reference and extend a little of what I have...
