This will be rather long, has 3 guides in it... two long ones and a short one which is just a short "how to".... I hope this helps! (if it's not confusing!)


Here is a guide to posting photos from Photobucket. You will need a Photobucket account that you can get (for free) from http://www.PhotoBucket.com and photos off of your computer.

(NOTE: For those of you who do not have your own image editing software, you can resize your photos at http://www.IrfanView.com )

To start, once you have your Photobucket account, you can either create a sub folder for specific photos (I.E Vacation Photos from 04, Fido, The Fids, Family Shots, etc), or upload photos directly into the main album. It’s easiest though to have individual photo albums if you’ve got a lot of photos!

At the top of each album page, there is a box that has ‘Add Photos’ at the top. From here you can choose to upload multiple photos (best if it’s a bunch of small photos such as ones that are 400x400 or smaller… and best done with a fast connection), or upload individual photos (good for slower connections and uploading photos that are larger than 600x600).



Under each photo that you upload, there will be three boxes, marked as “Url”, “Tag”, and “Img”.

Url is good to direct a person to a specific photo through messenger, e-mail, or just a link in chats and forums so that the image itself doesn’t take up room within the message.

Tag is good for websites that deal with HTML code, as well as a few forums that allow HTML code. Full sized image will appear.

Img is good for BBC forums and boards where the normal image code (i.e. the one above - html) will not work. Full sized image will appear.



If you are not working from a Photobucket account, then all you need is the URL of the photo to post. To get the URL, simply right click on the image, then copy the Address (URL).






Once highlighted, you can right click in the post and select 'Paste' or press Ctrl + V. The photo itself will then appear in your post once you hit 'Submit'. Add in the image tags [ IMG] [ /IMG] on each side of the image URL, without any spaces, and voila!

One can also show thumbnails of the photos, and when you click on the thumbnails, a new page with the larger photo will open. The thumbnail of the image is the one displayed in the specific gallery among the thumbnails of other photos. Here are the codes for HTML and BBC…

This guide may be confusing when mentioning the HTML and BBC code together. So try to remember this: HTML uses angle brackets (< >) or greater than and lesser than signs. HTML is also used in designing websites. BBC code uses box brackets ([ ]) and is mainly used in forums and boards.



NOTE: For thumbnails in Photobucket, it is the small image of the photo that you have uploaded and is displayed among the other thumbnails of the other images. Just simply right click on the thumbnail, go to properties, copy the URL, and paste it into the appropriate spot using the thumbnail code... [url=image url][img]thumbnail%20url[/img][/url], A note on thumbnails, normally right before the name of the photo, there is a "th_"... so if the photo is named "Cally513637.jpg", the thumbnail would be named "th_Cally513637.jpg".

Here's a few hints for Photobucket....

When you use the IMG tags, just left click in the box, and it'll copy to clipboard automatically.

When you go to post into a thread, either press "Ctrl + V" or right click and go down to "Paste".

If you have rather large images (500x300 pixels or larger... you can right click on image, go down to properties, and it'll tell you the Dimensions), you can either Edit them in Photobucket (better if you have image editing software) by clicking on the Edit button above the images.

If you are viewing the image there's some buttons at top, one of which says Resize, and will allow you to resize to a smaller image.


Orrr.... if your not up to resizing the images, just click on the little box below each photo that you want to share, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the button that reads "Generate HTML and IMG code". The third one down you can left click in, then paste into the forums to show thumbnails... and it'll line the images up on on top of the other...






Unless of course you edit them to be side by side.... by deleting just once (or twice) after the [/url].



Although it may help to understand the code of a thumbnail image...

IrfanView

IrfanView is a free image editing software program that you can download at http://www.irfanview.com and is a simple and great way for novices to easily resize and edit photos!

Once you start the program, IrfanView will open with a black screen. To open a photo to edit, click on “File” and go down to “Open…”. From here, if need be you can rotate the image “Left” or “Right”, by going to “Image”, and going down to “Rotate Left” or “Rotate Right” . These are good to use if the image was taken with the camera sideways. After the photo appears right, you can then resize the photo by going to “Image”, and down to “Resize/Resample…”.

After clicking on “Resize/Resample…”, you can use the standard set dimensions on the right side for quick and easy resizing, or choose a size of your own under ‘Set new size:’. "Set new size" is great for smaller images or even thumbnails or avatars! Once you choose how you are resizing the photo, you can then choose the resizing method, i.e. “Resample” for better image quality, or “Resize” for smaller photo.

After you have resized the photo to the size that you want, go back to “Image” and go down to “Sharpen”. Clicking on "Sharpen" will make the image appear clearer and not blurry, which makes the image appear to be better quality (should appear to be similar quality to that of the original file before editing).

Once you are done editing your photo, go to “File” and down to “Save As” so that the original file still remains the same, and the image you just edited will be for your use.


IrfanView Signature Image


To create an image of your critters for your signature, you can use the Panorama option under “Image”. Simply click on “Create Panorama Image…”, choose horizontal, and add photos. If need be you can rearrange the photos. Once finished, click “Create Image”. This will show your images in a line with all the images being the same size. For best viewing, it would be a good idea to keep the entire image smaller than 700 pixels wide, and 100 pixels high. If you resize the image, be sure to use the “Sharpen” option afterwards for a clearer image.

If you would like to add text to your image, simply left click and drag the mouse to create a rectangle. The box that is created is only temporary and you can always make another one with the first disappearing. Once you have the box where you want it, go to “Edit”, and down to “Insert Text Into Selection…”. Once clicking on “ITIS”, you can add text into the white box, and choose to align it within the temporary box created within the image. You can click on “Choose Font” to change the size of the word(s), and color. Once you have chosen both, click on “Ok”, then “OK” in the next box, and the text will appear on the image. Just save the image and voila!
