Biggies Mom

Postby shadowspooh on Wed Mar 14, 2007 8:00 pm

I just wanted to let everyone know I got my B&G macaw. I got him yesterday. He/She is 4 years old. His/Her name is Big Bird, Biggie for short. He talks, came with his cage, and is in good feather. The people I got him from believed he was a male, have never had him vetted. So, once he settles in he is going to the vet, to be sexed etc. His beak needs to be trimmed as well. He has a slight offset to his beak but he eats very well. According to the people I got him from he was handfed by a previous owner right out of the egg. He steps right up. He hollers Momma when I leave the room. He does not like new toys, is very afraid of them. He is deathly afraid of the spray bottle, and any sticks. When I sweep and mop around his cage, he runs away, and you can see him shake, so I think he was abused in the past. Anyway I just had to share my wonderful news. He is perfect.

They respond to love and kindness. And B&Gs are generally by nature very easy going :) My little boy Boo is deathly afraid of the spray bottle, I don't know why. I was told he was only about 7 months old when I bought him but that could have been an untruth. He was my first big bird and we learned together :) He is about 8 or 9 now :)

I have a Scarlet macaw and she loves to be sprayed, but my 2 U2's are afraid of the spray bottle. I have been trying to get the u2's used to it and they are more and more receptive only because I don't spray the water hard, so as not to make the psst sound. They seem to be less afraid of it then. So you might try spraying very gently so the pump doesn.t make that sound and see if it makes any difference. Just a thought

If I spray Schreech I always spray up in the air so it comes down on him like rainfall! It likes that, he prefers to not have me squirt it directly at him.
