Sad News

I just thought I'd let you know... Sashagirl passed away this past weekend. I belong to another board where one of the members knew her and confirmed it with her husband. They think it was a blood clot. It happened very quickly. I remembered the name here and checked her profile, and it is the same as her profile on the other site - same location, age, and pets (birds and chihuahuas).

Ohhh, that IS sad. Such a young woman with such a huge love of animals  Marcia was asthmatic and had so many critters that I wonder if the accumulation of irritants caused a fatal asthma attack. Very, very tragic. I hope her children aren't young

I don't think she and her husband had any children, if I remember correctly. They do have a lot of birds and dogs though - 28 birds and 6 chihuahuas. I would guess that her husband might quickly feel overwhelmed, taking care of all these animals by himself.

In her profile, she said she was a stay-at-home mom, but maybe she meant the animals were her children. I hope so. I can't imagine her husband being able to care for 34 animals, especially if he's as young as she was and probably employed. Just pretty awful. My head knows none of us is guaranteed another hour, but it's still shocking to see this happen and think of all the lives affected. One of my perennial worries about having so many little dependents myself.

How very sad......her poor husband..... hard enough without all those animals to care for. I know I do everything for my birds and if anything ever happened to me, I'm afraid of how my boyfriend would do suddenly stuck with them alone.

I live in CT and while I didnt know this woman, while reading these posts it rang a bell. While at our local bird club meeting last week my Avian vet, who is also a member of the club, mentioned about a woman who died suddenly and left behind numerous birds. My vet is their vet too. Anyway-she said naturally the husband is very distraught and not sure what to do about all the birds. She told him she would help him as much as possible and a lot of the members of our club are willing to help too in whatever way is needed. I think he needs sometime to just think straight. So very sad.

Where in conn. are you?? I wondered how far you are from me, I am in Mass. but western mass, so anywhere in northwestern part of Conn. is not too far from me. I also wondered what club this is that is helping out......it would great if he just had someone come to help vacuum and clean up, ya know? I only have four birds and it's a job cleaning up after them, I can only imagine how much work it is with all those birds. Also I have a friend very close to Conn. more in central Mass, but near the conn. border who is a foster home to rescue birds.....maybe if it's not too far there are people over here in mass that might be willing to help as well.

I personally live in southeast CT., but members of our bird club are from all over the state. Our meetings are in Middletown and its called The Connecticut Parrot Society. I certainlly will post if I hear anything else. I know the vet said she wanted to give the man some time and see what he wants to do as far as maybe just needing some help{cleaning, feeding etc}or possibly rehome some birds etc. The club itself as a whole is not a rescue and if we "take in" birds so to speak a home visit is made first and the birds normally stay with the owners{except in emergency situations} until a foster home or permanent adopted home is found. Any members of our club who want to adopt have to have a home visit and fill out an applicationas well. Again when I hear anything I certainly can pass the info on. Understandably this man is probably so distraut that he really doesnt know what he wants to do.

Also-just so I dont word things the wrong way...our club as a whole isnt doing anything for this situation...just some members in hearing the story offered to help if it is needed{myself included}. It would be great if he could keep the birds because it sounds like they are all well loved and taken cared of. I will post if I hear of anything else.

Well, ya know......the guy must have a love of birds as well if he was allowing that many birds in his home! It must be so hard for him......to give up any of those birds must make him feel like he would giving up a part of his wife. I would hope that he was able to hold onto them......but you have to be realistic too, that is alot of birds.
Today I asked my boyfriend, what would you do if anything ever happened to me, with the birds?? He loves them, but he really isn't much of a "bird" person. He said that he would keep them, but would possibly re-home the lovie.......yeah, the lovie......the smallest one is is the biggest handful! even with a wing clip!! I think about this now, but I only have four birds and if no home was found for any of the ones my boyfriend felt he couldn't keep, I would want them to go to my friend Lin, she is a foster home to rescue birds.
I hope at least that this husband gets some help cleaning up or something.....I would offer to help, but I think I am too far away. :?

This is so sad... She is an animal lover and left them all with her husband. :( I wonder who's gonna help him with those pets?
