As the Membership Secretary of the Budgerigar Association of America I have been doing a search for 4 people looking for crested English budgies in the U.S. There are 3 breeders breeding them. 2 in AZ and one 1 Washing State. I know that each has about 6 to 15 birds. Non of these people have anything for sale. 2 of the 3 have splits, but no visual crested.
The champion breeder in FL who had some of the best had his aviary broken into when he was on vacation back in 1999. They stole 350 of his best birds - 32 were crested. They even took is pedigree books. Since non of these birds ended up in the sales market it is assumed they were sent to Puerto Rico.
Unless someone is making a trip to Europe or Japan to buy/import more bloodlines/birds we are about to lose this mutation. I would suggest Japan, they are doing AMAZING things with crested English budgies.
