    Thanks Matt,

Again, it's going to be interesting. I will be giving avian biotech a lot of buisness on DNA work.

I have another question along these same lines. If I have a normal greencheek what would be the best mutation (assuming no splits) to pair it with to get the most variety in color of the babies? Would like to know for a male and for a female

    Thanks,

That may depend on the parents genetics as well as what colors you are looking for. The only mutations I know of in GCC's (from Gencalc) are Grey, Cinnamon, Opaline (Yellowside), Turquoise (parblue), Misty, and Recessive Pied. The most common mutations are Cinnamon and Opaline, with Turquoise gaining popularity.

Therefore, you'd probably find Cinnamons and Opalines most frequent and maybe if you look a bit harder, the Turquoise ones as well... but the others you are less likely to come across. Therefore, you need to know what colors you'd like to get in order to achieve the desired result. All are stunning mutations in their own right.

Not only that but some birds have more reds, yellows, blues or greens than others... therefore affecting the total outcome of colors in offspring...

Just a mental note to everyone come breeding season.
I'm avidly looking for two very specific males for my breeding program.
#1 of course will be a pinapple turquoise male
#2 I'm looking for a top notch show quality big, bright cinnamon turquoise male
(Not a bird exactly in show condition, i'm looking for conformation).

#3 Not as important to me at this point. Will be looking for the biggest reddest pinapple hen I can find.

Using a normal hen, try a normal male from a ys and a cin combo parents. Either way doesn't matter. You would get normals, ys hens, cin hens and maybe a pineapple. Using a normal male you would get nothing but normals by breeding to any color. Good luck Don
