I need to re paint a large cage for my m2.I was going to go to lowes and try to find some kid safe latex paint.Is there any kind of paint that you would recommend?I know theres got to be some bird safe paint in the local pet store.

Large cockatoos have extremely strong beaks, and latex paint is really not strong enough to stand up to them. Few Paints are sturdy enough for this in fact. I suspect that all of the coatings that are sturdy enough to stand up to them are toxic until they are completely cured. Latex paints just are not good enough.

Two part epoxy coatings and two part polyurethanes might be sturdy enough, but the bird would have to live elsewhere until they were completely cured.

Latex is really pretty crumby stuff when it comes to strength and durability.

As Robert says...most paints don't hold up to too beaks...and for a lasting paint job they need to be powder coated...
For touch ups...I use Painter's Touch by Rustoleum...I haven't seen it in sprays lately...but did see it in a can at Home Depot last week...

I spoke with a representative from Kings Cages about two months ago and was told that they recommend Krylon brand spray paint--the type that is made for KIDS. They also said to use a couple of coats. I would feel pretty safe going with a recommendation from this company.

We have used Krylon for 29 years it is totally safe only market paint I will use!

The aresol is bad for the birds in the spray paint and spray paint chips and is toxic.The rust is also REALLY poisonous for your birds!

Never spray paint in house or in area where birds are- this is common sence! You spray paint cage outide well vented let dry and air for few days and with birds for over 27 years have Never had a problem using this techneque!
