I'm in Dallas Texas. And would even consider a short distance from here if need be. I'm not to sure on the shipping thing. Not to sure how that would work, or even if it could be done. It's been sooooo hot here in Texas. Triple digits all this week. And it doesn't look like we are in for a break anytime soon.

And I refuse to do the bird fair thing after what happened with one of my friends and her birds.

One of the finest breeders in the world is in Austin: http://www.oldworldaviaries.com/ Scott and Linda Lewis don't breed 'zons, but they will know who does in your area, and you can thoroughly trust anyone they refer you to.

Another resource you probably have found already, but JIC not: http://www.dallasbirdsociety.org/dbs/default.aspx The club does rescue and can help you find that older 'zon if you decide to go that direction. I see you've got an excellent speaker, Barbara Heidenreich, coming to conduct a seminar on August 24th. LUCKY YOU!!! I attended her seminar locally 2 years ago and find ways to use things she taught me every day 8) This picture's no prize except to me  That gorgeous 'too spent his first 4 years with me

Bluesbird Exotics wrote:That's exactly how I feel about my female lilac crowned :) Did you notice any behavioral differences when your sweet girl became sexually mature? Never saw any in mine and she's 13, so mature for many years. The Doss article says the "hot 3" females often become cuddlier during their most hormonal times.

Well, she is beginning some hen behavior. If I touch her the wrong way while playing (we roughhouse a bit) then she immediately sticks that butt in the air and the head down. We then...change the subject.

Other than that, she's gotten much less nippy, but I would call her more cuddly. She preens me obssessively anymore..hair on my arms, my head hair, anything she can get a hold of. Again, I just try to...change the subject.

I think her nippiness went away because she seems to have gotten much more confident in the last year. She used to be shy around other people but now she talks up a storm in front of strangers, so think her little personality change made the nippiness go.

Mumbles hasn't been here nearly as long as you, so I tend to chuck her/his feedback and trust my own knowledge of your good judgment. YAY!!!

Yes, it was a very big mistake. They should have positive listed as first choice not last. She has always given good advice. I did try to correct it ASAP but it wouldn't let me. I sent a PM to Garret right away asking him to correct it last night.

It is nice to know that my advice is chucked since I have been here 17 days less the ziamama. Guess my advice is not really wanted here after all.

Also I am a female 49 years old who has been caring for all kinds of animals for to many years to remember. I am a wildlife rehabber too so have cared for rabbits, raccoons, squirrels, cranes, fox, owls, deer, opossum, and may more, plus helping any parrot I can when asked.

Fooey on me  I didn't post what I meant to and was so sleepy (It was after midnight.) that I didn't take time to reread it and catch my mistake 'til just now. I meant to say "I intend to chuck her/his negative feedback and trust my own knowledge of your good judgment." I'm very sorry, Mumbles  Kiasmama has posted a lot more than you have, so I "know" her better and thought the negative feedback, without explanation, was something she should disregard, just as I intended to. Please don't be hurt over a garbled communication. Your experience is obviously quite a valuable resource for all of us to benefit from.

Oh my I've started something....lol

sorry guys.... I just lost my mom ten days ago...and my mind has been all over the place. Since I brought up mom...let me throw this out to you guys. Mom LOVED Kia and Kia loved mom. In fact no matter how weak she was (lung cancer, she was on home hospice) when Kia yelled "grammy" mom would always try to say "what". they really had a great relationship. In fact everyone was gushing over Kia on the pics at the viewing. (I have a very nice one of her and mom) The first day with kia imitating mom was tough, but now we laugh about it. it's really a nice memory.

Anyway, there isn't a grave marker at the cemetery, so today in a woodworking magazine I get, I saw the plans for a 3D parrot, painted just like a DYH!!! I was so happy. So I ordered that plan, I'll build the thing...and I'll put Grammy or something like that on it as a marker. Do you think that's a nice tribute, or a little...silly? Yes you can tell me if it's silly. I'm over my anger phase now...lol.

again..sorry for the mix ups...

Ohhh, I'm so sorry you've lost your mom  My partner of 18 years died of lung cancer in 2000, so I have some idea why your emotions might have gone for a few rides lately. My mom died 5 weeks later and really knocked me for a loop. I remember logging onto Up at Six the night before her funeral and really blasting someone. He deserved it, but it wasn't something I'd have done at another time.

A few years earlier, I'd adopted a grey who sometimes delighted me with "Hello bird!" in my mom's quavery voice. I loved that. When the grey died, a dear friend had a gravemarker carved for me. Maybe it will help you think what you want to do for your mom.

Healing light around you, Paca

oh wow...that's nice...thanks for posting the pic. I like that...hmm...that's certainly getting the wheels turning a bit. That would be a neat thing...then after we get the headstone, I can put that marker over by the pond. Hmm....THANKS for the idea!!

So sorry for both you losses. When we lost our cat of 17 years my husband was heart broken. That cat had him wrapped around her little paw. She could do no wrong in his eyes and slept plastered against him every night. I to went a bit over board or at least some people think I did. I had a head stone made for her which reads " Daddy's little huntress 1985-2002". She loved bring daddy little presents from outside, all of them alive and would let them go at his feet. It took us 2 hours to catch a chipmunk once, all the time with Que Que just sitting there watching us running around trying to catch it. She never once offered to help. :x Now mind you I went to a place that makes headstones for people graves.
Needless to say they thought I was nuts by the looks I was getting since I was more than willing to pay $250.00 for a cats headstone.
She is buried right next to the stonewall she would sit on for hours watching traffic go by.
Any headstone that makes you feel warm and fuzzy when you look at it is a wonderful idea.
