I was going to get a yellow naped today....but things were not as they seemed and I backed out. I've been checking out a few places today online and a few look promising. Of course ALOT more money than I intended....but I'm willing to pay that if things are all good. I did however talk to someone that has an 8 year old Blue Front Amazon they are wanting to rehome....and i am going to see it tomorrow. This parrot is suppost to really like kids...which I find amazing. Most parrots are not really into kids that much. Atleast most that I have seen. Everything that I have read says they are more calm than the yellow head amazons. I am wanting to know if this is true with those of you that own a blue front. Also he/she is not DNA'd but they are thinking he is a male.....didn't ask why on that part.

Any input on blue fronts would be appreciated.....Just primarily in regard to the double yellow head and yellow naped. Course I did see a Mexican Red head amazon here locally too.

I've read so much on these birds today that I don't know what to honestly think. Each one is different in what I guess is their opinion. I would like to hear from those that have experience on these.....Thanks!!!

After reading up on the blue front's it seems like they are still considered in what some have called the HOT 3. But are less aggressive in most cases. It also stated on one particular article I read that most times they get along better with other parrot species, and have been known to flock with quakers. Which I guess is good since I have a quaker. Ziggy is actually small for a quaker though, he is a blue quaker and they are usually smaller in size than the normal greens. Course I would NEVER DARE put the two together EVER. It would be nice to know they could ??POSSIBLY?? get along if one got to the other by accident.

I hope someone can come along that can tell me more by personal experiences about the blue fronts. I go and see this guy tomorrow......and I know I don' t want to jump into anything especially since the bird is 8. But I really like the idea of adoption. Most people DO want a new young parrot as opposed to an older one. And I know 8 is still considered a young chicken for an amazon. I think I read one lived to be 117 years old in one article. It was OVER 100. So that is amazing!!!!

My male 'zon is a 12 yr old BF. He's a real sweet fella when he's not intent on chewing me to bloody bits His murderous moments are fewer now than the last 7 yrs. He hit sexual maturity early, almost exactly on his 5th birdday. Oh my, did I learn to move fast! Now he's relatively calm unless my hair is wet or he thinks I'm withholding food or touching his favorite things. The first couple of years, I left him out of his cage 24/7 because I didn't want to handle him to get him inside But then I realized I could trick him in with a food treat. Since then, I leave him out when I'm in the house, including overnight, but not when I leave for more than a couple hours.

When another bird lands on his cage, he's always scrambled to a far corner, thank goodness. But he doesn't show any desire to play with any of them, including my quakers. He's always very grateful when I remove the trespasser. I have a lot of visitors, including some children, and he's very shy with all of them, not wanting to be touched in any way. And he doesn't want me touching him either, although he makes it clear in many ways that he's as fond of me as I am of him. We talk and sing together and his voice is a heart melter.

I don't know how he compares to the others in the "hot 3" grouping, but I too have heard BFs are the calmest of the three. I would definitely not get another "hot 3" 'zon because I much prefer less aggressive birds and have many of them, so I do know how different they are. But I would never ever consider rehoming my fierce 'zon boy. He and I are tight, just in a different hands-OFF way. And I have every hope he'll continue to mellow.

Your Blue Front is BEAUTIFUL!!!! Yeah I am kind of curious as to how this one is gonna react being he/she is at the age that the hormonal thing can happen. I dont' know.....I guess I will know if it's right or not when i actually see the bird and how he /she reacts to me as well.....i know that sounds weird. LOL But I just knew when I saw my others they were gonna be mine.

I picked my little quaker out of about 6 they had and he was literally put in a cage to himself because he was picked on by the others and he became a little aggressive. He has NEVER EVER bit anyone at all since I have had him. And he will talk your ears off!!! LOL And if you ignore him he lets you know he can yell. Would not trade that little guy for anything!!

Well.....I will either have a bluefront tomorrow or maybe not......if all goes right YES!!! Not gonna jump into it like I said........This is a LIFE LONG commitment on my part in getting on of these guys!!

It kinda sucks too being the bird is 8 and they don't know the gender for sure!! I could NOT stand that!! LOL Just me I guess. I WILL have that done if I bring him/her home with me!!!

We have an 11 yr old BF DNA tested female. She was rehomed to me when she was 18 months old. She shared cage space with a blue crowned conure, who was our very first bird, & he was a rescue from an abusive situation. He passed away almost 2 years ago of old age I presume, he was healthy as a horse early that morning, & when we came back from running errands, he was gone. After that, she shared cage space with my 10 yr old son's quaker, also another rescued bird. The QP passed on this year, also we presume from age, but he still had food in his beak.

Now she is sharing with 2 sun conures, both rescues. It was very cute this morning. She was on the perch with one sun snuggled up to each side. One of the suns is going to a sun experienced home on Wednesday, & the other we're keeping because she's actually lonely without a buddy.

She talks, calls everyone in the house by name except for me, & she calls me Mama when she wants me. When she wants something & we tell her no, or don't come to her right away, she sits there & cries like a baby's cry. That's because she learned the cry from our 8 year old son when he was the baby! She's a spoiled child( ), but she's good with kids. Our neighborhhod kids who are friends of our sons can hold her on their arms, & pet her tail, but that's the only place we allow any of them to touch. She plays her version of catch with them too from the top of her cage. They'll give her the bell ball, she'll shake it then throw it & laugh. She'll do that till she gets bored.

We have BF 'zon named Tia. She is also a female and is 16 months old. She is absolutely hysterical! She talks alot - knows our other pet birds by names and uses the names appropriately. For instance, when the Hahns macaw Holly starts shrieking, Sargeant Tia tells her "No Holly! You be quiet!! Baaad girl!!" When our catalina Macaw Frankie starts in, he is relegated to the same treatment only it is "No Frankie! You be quiet! Baaad boy!!" When the phone rings she answers "Hello?" and then mumbles and says "uh-huh" "okay" and "g'bye". She says a bunch of other stuff like "hello sweetheart" when I feed them their breakfast. I will say that she does NOT like me (other than when I am feeding her of course). I hand fed her but she bonded to my husband and he is the only one allowed to pet her, pick her up, or interact with her. She has not been raised with children so I don't know how she would be. She is, however, a wonderful bird and we wouldn't trade her for anything. Good luck in your search!
