I'm not positive, but I believe I once read somewhere that it's a GWxScarletxBG cross, although in which order, and which parent is the hybrid, I don't know.

I've never seen one, either, and only heard them mentioned a couple of times, so don't quote me on this.

I may have heard of a fiesta macaw once or twice before but never really knew what it was... until a member on another forum asked. I looked up what information I could, and this is what I came up with!

A Fiesta Macaw is 3/8's Blue & Gold, 3/8's Scarlet, and 1/4 Greenwing. If it helps any, here's a "family tree" of what makes a Fiesta a Fiesta...

Here's a few albums of a Fiesta Macaw - Fresca (I believe her name is - from AZParrots - $1,800)

Fresca I believe was sold to a costumer, and indeed, there isn't one on the site! Of course, considering parentage, they could really appear like anything inbetween, so one picture may not be able to give justive to say 10 or so birds.

A hybrid by any other name, especially in the 3d generation, probably shouldn't have a fancy name to give it an artificial value. The individual bird should be judged on its own merits, the same way we would view dogs or any other animal of "pure" or mixed or uncertain ancestry.

I don't call them anything other than 3rd generation hybrid macaws or the 2 recognized street names, Harlequin x Camelot. They are not a species and the names don't mean anything unless enough people are in agreement and using the same name for the same hybrid mix.

manyfeathers wrote:Thank you, Alhee! I happen to know that the breeder made up the "Catchy Name" as a merchandising ploy, hoping it would catch on if seen posted around enough to add "value" to it. Other hybrid breeders call 3rd generation hybrid Harlequin x Camelot macaws "Harlot." I guess that wasn't good enough. I think I can understand why "Harlot" may not have easily 'stuck'... considering that harlot means a woman prostitute or whore...

And someone has labeled a Scarlet x Harlequin as a "Harlot".

Actually, I am the mother of Fresca, the Fiesta macaw you are referring to. I did not acquire Fresca because of the hybrid name, in fact I fell in love with her and knew she had to be a part of our flock before she even had feathers or the catchy name. I just saw that special something in her little eyes.

She does have a sister whose colors seem to be wtih cooler undertones whereas Fresca has more warm undertones. There are side-by-side comparisons in the albums referenced above. She seems to be smaller than my other macaws (but she is only 1) and has a slender build with a generous wingspan. It is incredible to see her fly, (all my fids are fully flighted).

Even though she is still very young she is spirited and social with people and other fids. She is also smart and already has a vocabulary of about 12 words and is fast learning how to take many things apart. I am willing to bet that her personality will be more like that of a Scarlet/Catalina/Camelot than the Harlequin side of her.

I for one am greatful for the name Fiesta Macaw. Much easier to put on my pictures than "3rd generation hybrid macaw". It also sounds A LOT better than Harlot!!

I just wanted to add my 2 cents and let everyone know that there is so much more than a catchy name or value when talking about my special little girl or her sister.

I apologize, my album comparing Fresca to her sister was not referenced above (except featherless). if anyone is interested I have included it below. Comparison starts at picture 24 to picture 38. Fresca has the yellow-orange. Her sister is more coral in color.

NID, thanks for the smile! Enjoyed reading your post about Fresca! It's good to see a person who can love the bird for the bird, instead of what the bird is (if that makes any sense). I would be interesteed in hearing more about Fresca as she gets older and how her personality compares to other macaws!
