Quick and easy sewing project for Jewel...

Postby JKnox0526 on Thu Jun 12, 2008 8:11 am

I love sewing and was given Amy Butler's In Stitches last Christmas. In the book she has instructions to make a cat tunnel. I used these instructions to make a "cave" for Jewel. Here are my changes:
1. I reduced the length to 19" (finished 18"). I kept the width the same at 37" (36" finished) so Jewel can stand upright in it).
2. I added 3 tabs to the top (one on each side and one in the middle) so we could hang it.
3. I cut a piece of cardboard so she has something to stand on inside it (which I can replace if she goes in it).

It's too big for her cage, but it hangs nicely on the side of it. I'll post a picture soon. She was scared of it at first (she's scared of everything) but about 10 mins later I was in another room and heard her saying "pretty, pretty, pretty" and "pretty Jewel" and came to look and she was inside the tunnel preening and thinking about napping. This morning she's been running through it. I thought I'd share in case there are other sewers.

Sounds good. Am awaiting your pic. I got an idea it is similar to a sleep hut I make for Rocco but I'd like to see your version. You probably Saved yourself anywhere from 10 to twenty bucks and a way more than than that since your bird likes it so well.-----Yogi

I payed nothing for it! LOL! Both fabrics were given to me by my mother-in-law they she ended up not using for a project she made. Even the thread and needles for the machine were left overs from another project I had.

That looks similar to what I make for Rocco.

I can see why your bird likes it---roomy but not too big and nice and cozy for naps. Nice job!----Yogi
