Please Help With Double Yellow Head Coloring

Postby jippypop on Sun Jun 08, 2008 7:07 pm

I just purchased a pair of DYH Amazons. The female looks like normal coloring but the male is different. The male has a lot more yellow that wraps around his neck about half way down. Also the top of his head the feathers are tinged red. It is not blood I checked. It is like the ends of the feathers are scalloped in red. It really is quite pretty. Also he has a lot more red on his upper wings. Is this a different species of DYH?
Thanks

They might be separate subspecies....

Look at number 9 and 10. Sounds like the female may be Amazona o. oratrix, and the male is Amazona o. magna... There's also number 11, Amazona o. tresmariae.

I'd be interested in photos if you can!
