I got a new goffins.. need some info please

Postby Lovebirdlady on Mon Jun 02, 2008 7:51 am

Hi got a 5 yr old Goffins from a lady who no longer could care for her
The owner before her, neglected her and she plcuked herself from her neck to her tushy. sence she has been with the lady I got her from she has grow back a lot of fluff and most of her tail feathers and maybe some of her wing feathers. Cricket still has bald spots on her shoulder tips and chest.
Is there anything I can give her to help the feathers grow in. She eats fruity pellets
Any info on Goffins is welcome too!
Thanks
Bridget & Cricket

Hi! Congrats on your new Goffin's! :D Your goffin's needs a more varied diet then just fruity pellets. They should be getting fresh fruits & veggies every day along with a variety of nuts in the shell. I also recommend and use Daily essentials3 vitamins from Birdcare company. I sprinkle on my birds soft food each morning. Does wonders for them and makes their feathers just glow! As for plucking, I've had great success with Pluck no More which I bought on the King's cages website. You should check it out. Kinda expensive but worth it.

    Good luck! :P

She does not pluck any more, but will not try new foods. Any time I give her something new she will put her foot above her head and throw it??

I don't know of a goffin, or any bird, that will refuse pieces of fresh corn on the cob. Buy a bird kabob and thread some corn on the cob on one. Also put some apple wedges on it. These two should hopefully get the little one started and she will view the food as a toy if it is on the kabob. Have you tried any of the crazy corn or cooked dishes? Sometimes warm food is a hit too. And birdie bread is a hit around here. You can buy Mama's birdie bread in packages that you make up at home. Some pet stores will carry it. However, I order mine thru Wrangler's roost. I also order Goldenfeast products from them. My birds LOVE Goldenfeast. Check it out at http://www.wranglersroost.com
