it's been awhile.........

............since I've last visited :)

Both my tiels are doing really well, they really really are in love :D
It is nearly winter now and even though the days are still stunning, the nights are getting colder.
The birds seem to be coping really well thankfully.
We had a massive downpour last night, or actually, early this morning so had to race outside to put a tarp over the uncovered part of the aviary that's not under the patio but to no avail :? Everything got soaked.
When it rains here in Perth, it really really buckets down!
We sometimes get 2 months worth in just 10 minutes

I might be taking in a little abandoned budgie soon
He and his girl were dumped on the doorstep of my vet's practice :x
The girl was in terrible shape, scaly mites on her face, deformed beak and she actually died today from fright (the cage fell over  ) but I think the vet was going to have to put her down anyway as she was really not healthy.....
The boy appears very healthy which is surprising so I am willing to take the poor little fella in but am obviously concerned about him having mites etc
Any tips guys?
He will not be anywhere near the aviary and I will make sure the aviary birds get fed first before this little one but I also don't want to bring him home for him to die on us a little while later (don't think the kids could handle that :? )
Looking forward to reading your opinions :)

Welcome back..
that is so sad about the little budgie :(
maybe you could talk to that vet about what to do if indeed that budgie is carrying mites?

The budgie so far appears to be in excellent health :D
He has settled in well, we've named him "Indy" as he is as blue as the Indian Ocean here in Western Australia :D

He is chirping away and eating well
I can tell he has never seen fruit or veg or a nice juicy Eucalyptus leaf in his life as he looked at them as if it was something very scary
I'm sure he will get used to them and devour them as the other birds do though the others do seem to prefer the Bottlebrush or Grevillea leaves and flowers.......
Apparently Eucalyptus is very important to a budgie's health and luckily we're in the right country to spoil our birdies with them :D
I am also hoping I can convert our little Indy to pellets as he seems to be pretty keen on his seeds at the moment and won't touch the healthy stuff yet..........
