Bird Diet Poll

Postby bspahr@fuse.net on Sat Mar 22, 2008 1:38 pm

Hello All,

I work for a bird and small animal food company and was wondering if I can get your help? I am trying to help this company to produce better and healthier diets that consumers are looking for. I would like to find out what you look for in a diet for your birds. Any info you can give me will help such as:

1. What kind of bird do you have?
2. Do you feed pellets, seed, or both and brands
3. What protein and fat levels do you want
4. What influences you to buy your food: brand, color, texture, high or low amount of sunflower seeds, peanuts, oats, millet,etc...
5. Do you look for specific types of nuts, fruit, veggies, etc.

Also if anyone owns small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.. I would love your opinion on what you look for in their foods.

Anything else you can think of would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you to everyone in advance! Thank you UPATSIX!!

Please reply here or PM me!!

I have a cockatiel, 2 quakers and a moustache parakeet. I feed seed and ZuPreem pellets, some cooked food, etc. I buy my seed out of storage bins in a pet store because I've found moths in packaged seed. I also store my feed in the old fashioned glass canning jars with rubber seals to keep out all kinds if pests and keep it fresh. This works very well for me, and is also pretty. I don't care for black sunflower seed, and tend to buy cockatiel and med sized parrot food with safflower. But I've also heard that safflower seed has a lot of oil so I'm not sure if that's best. I give a little bit of cooked food which they seem to love. I forget wwhich kind, but it came with a protein supplement which I'm giving a very small amount of to the cockatiel and the moustache, they're both very thin. I won't buy any seed that has a lot of black sunflower seed in it. I personally like to see dried fruits and veggies in my food, the moustache likes to dunk it in water. I always check the list of ingredients to see how much of what is in there. And remind them that unemployment is up. My local paper just ran an article about how many animals are bieng surrendered.
