MFids,

Look at her wing tips and how they are white and dark. Do you think she might pied? Her sister has that too, but other rosey bourkes I have dont have that.

I have a pair that throws rainbows with a lot of extra color. This is my pet 'Bourkie', could you imagine the babies that yours and Bourkie would throw!

Oh yea, they would be absolutely gorgeous babies!! Do your pair always throw them? Every clutch or every once in a while? And what are the parents to yours? My email is kansascathy@hotmail.com if you want to chat.

    Spotted rosie

    Postby nancd777 on Fri Mar 21, 2008 7:18 am

I was given a lovely little female Bourkie.
    http://s290.photobucket.com/albums/ll260/nancd777/
She is two years old and has the multiple colors down her rump and tail. The rest of her is spotted....distinctly spotted. I've searched the sites given here on genetics and colors and have not found anything relating to Pied Rosies or Spotted Rosies. What do you all think?

Can you believe this bird was UNWANTED!!! Sheesh! Thanks, nanc

WOW!! She is unbelivable! I would say she is pied. Why would someone not want her?

    Unwanted Rosie Pied

    Postby nancd777 on Fri Mar 21, 2008 8:47 am

The woman buys and sells dogs. She simply decided the Rosie wasn't "valuable" so I offered to take it. Good thing as the other 3 died...probably from cheap Mart feed. At least that's the story. She wouldn't tell me anything else and wouldn't tell me where she got them from two years ago. Wouldn't let me see her other birds etc. I considered this little Rosie and myself blessed, indeed. After her quarantine, she will be very happy to live out the rest of her little life with me and the rest of my Rosie flock. We'll see if she's healthy enough to take a mate. Any ideas if the Pied is dominant? thanks.

From the way I understand it. If she is recessive pied the offspring will be split pied. And if she is Dom pied the babies will be visual pied. But you never know. It will be interesting to see what her babies look like.

    Pied Rosies

    Postby nancd777 on Sat Mar 22, 2008 7:19 am

Hmmm. Kind of like the cockatiel genetics. Such a pretty little girl and so kind. She does call a bit to the other Rosies with a sweet lovely little call. So glad she's here. Reminds me of the Morning Doves we hear around here. I've decided to hold off breeding her but I will put her in with her mate after quarantine. I'm interested in what kind of diet you all think she should be put on. Right now she gets the Vita sun Parakeet feed, Proteen twenty five egg feed free choice and Higgins fruit and Veggie free choice. She's not interested in any fresh food yet but WILL nibble on the sprouted greens and seeds. I didn't want to overload or shock her little system with too much so we're taking it slow. So cute. She's beginning to perk up when I call and hop over to the side of the cage. I need a name...want to suggest something? Thanks.

I feed all my birds Wing Nut (Parrotlet Paradise), Cooked beans, brown rice, frozen mix veggies, egg food, and what ever fruits I have in the house. I also give my birds a liquid calcium (calcivet) in their water all the time, and a powdered vitamin on their beans, millet.
