Question about my greenwing macaw?

Postby inky on Sun Mar 09, 2008 6:17 pm

I have a 13 year old greenwing macaw. She has never been very heavy weighing around 1050 grams. I weighed her on Friday and she weighed 998 grams. She doesn't act sick, her poops are normal. She just doesn't want to eat. She still talks and plays. If I hand her something she will usually take it and eat it. I started handfeeding her so her weight didn't go down anymore. I am going to take her to the vet but does anyone have any idea what might be going on? She just went through a normal moult. Could it be something seasonal? None of our birds are eating the greatest right now, except, our pair of caiques. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Vera

I know that birds weight fluctuate throughout the year... If you've had her for those 13 years and her weight has never gone under 1,000 grams (must be able to know weight ranges throughout the entire year) then something could certainly be up. Of course it also might end up being nothing at all and she's perfectly healthy. Keep us updated!
