Aussie Galah owner seeking some local pellet advice

Postby Mike J on Mon Mar 03, 2008 3:16 pm

Hi,
I'm living in Melbourne and would like some advice/recommendations on what brands of pellets to get (or avoid) that are available here in Australia.
Any advice on the seed/pellet conversion of my Galah would be much appreciated as I understand this will have to be a careful process.
Thanks in advance.
Mike.

Is this the new Galah you're needing to "convert," Mike? If so, how old is she, is she healthy, and what is she eating besides seed?

ParrotPlus,
The Galah is a 7 year old female. I've had her since she was a baby. She is in good health and a good natured companion bird. She gets fresh seed and water daily as well as a variety of veggies, fruit, cuttlebone and various treats that I rotate during the week.
Mike.

You might want to check out the FeedingFeathers.com site, Mike. If she's getting a GOOD variety of specific, highly nutritious veggies and a little bit of specific fruits daily, with a tidbit of only healthy treats, she might not need pellets to give her the nutrients every bird needs. But since you're thinking she does, she probably does. Have you had bloodwork done recently to see how her body is doing?

Here are some articles on conversion techniques and good avian nutrition:

Since I'm in the US, others will need to provide info on which pellets are locally available. Have you researched the Vetafarm folks? http://www.vetafarm.com.au/manage/docum ... ntage2.pdf They've been around awhile and have a great reputation internationally, at least with me!

Good luck, Paca
