I just saw that you are looking to trade your cockatoo for a blue and gold macaw. I guess one of the birds are not working out for you.

Can you give us an update???

    Hi Scootie,
I decided to keep the Cockatoo's. The M2 started getting agressive towards the female U2, and myself included, but I was more worried over the U2 than myself. But since then, I have seperated them into two different cages but both are in the same room, just different cages, I let them out daily for awhile, under close supervision.
Another thing that changed my mind is that I don't want these two birds to be no more seperated than in different cages. I honestly don't know what I was thinking when I posted that I wanted to trade the M2. I am very much attached to both or these Cockatoo's and I wouldn't be able to lay down and sleep knowing not knowing where they were at or how they were being treated.
Plus Ms Paca had to put her two cents worth in...LOL.. After re-reading my posting's I can fully understand why some thought I didn't deserve these Cockatoo's or whatever, but I'm good to these two Parrots, as well as my others. But I guess I just lost patients the day I posted that I wanted to trade the M2..... As far as a Blue/Gold Macaw, I don't think I'll be getting one for quite some time, I do believe that I have my hands full right now...LOL. But you never know (Paca), a deal might just come my way that I can't pass up, you know how those freebies are....LOL.
    Later,
    Jackie

Jackie, I still think you should read all those files by Dr. Susan Friedman when you get a chance. Learning about positive reinforcement totally changed my relationship with my birds. I got a rehomed Timneh about 3 years ago and she was a biter. Now she is just full of p*ss and vinegar and very recently started to fly to me. It was just the best feeling. She was scared of every little noise when I got her but I respected her fear, gave her choices and now things are just wonderful but it took 3 years.

I'm glad you are keeping them. Please do consider joining the PBAS list. There is a lot to be learned just from reading the threads there.

    Hi Jackie,

It is always an adjustment when new birds come into out homes. I, personally, think that you did the right thing by putting each in their own cage.

I took in 3 birds 2 years ago, which I thought was temporary til the owner gt back on his feet. The caique and sun conure were in the same cage. The caique would get agressive and chase the poor sun conure and he could not get away. I immediately got him a new cage (for his safety). They still preen each other when they sit on me but we do not have the unsafe situation. I found out later that their owner knew they did that and he thught it was funny. I do not share his sense of humor and did what I felt was best for both birds. He has never wanted them back and they are mine permanently.

I hope that they can adjust to that change. The caique had been put with this sun conure when he was little so they were very bonded to each other but stll like to be with me too. Their cages sit next to each othr and they have a boing going across the top like a little bridge. When they are out, the sun conure likes to go to the amazons cage and sit way up on the highest part of the boing and also eat his food.

It does take time for them to adjust to their new home, new people, etc. Things will get better as they get to trust you more.

I totally agree that it was the right decision to separate the two cockatoos into different cages. The safety of the female was a concern. These two can see still have out of cage time together on a stand. If the male were to get aggressive then, at least the female would be able to get away.
