noisy

Postby kathy33 on Mon Sep 03, 2007 9:12 am

I read that budgies are supposedly good pets to have in an apartment. I thought maybe they wouldn't be too noisy. I was wrong. Today they woke up at 7:15 am and started chirping and squawking very loudly. I had to put my earplugs in but still could hear them very well. They kept this up for about 3 hours. I'm worried about the people in the next apartment. They might report me if this keeps up. Remind me why are budgies considered good pets for apartments? lol

I don't know that they squawk any louder than a TV or a newborn infant, or rocknroll radio.. Most cities/towns/apt admins are reasonable, as long as the squawks aren't at 3AM (which they won't be if the birds are in a dark room).

If 7:15 is too early, room darkening curtains might help, my birds don't really squawk if they are in a dark room.

Compared to aratinga conures, macaws, cockatoos, amazons, and other species of parrots... budgies are considered "quiet", however they love to chatter!

NOISY is a relative term when one is talking about birds. Budgies ARE less noisy than macaws, cockatoos or a conures. However for some people budgies are still too noisy, so they keep finches.

Your birds let you sleep in to 7:15 am, - cool - how nice of them! There is a reason this site is called Up At Six! ALL birds greet the sun with joy and chatter. Budgies are good apartment pets because of their small size, thus they don’t need exceedingly large cages. For most people they are not that noisy of a species.

Some apartments have paper thin walls and come with crabby neighbors. IF you like your budgies and are really concerned about the neighbors ASK them if they are being bothered. Why always feel like you have to walk on egg shells? My birds are in an indoor/outdoor aviary. I too was concerned about the noise level my 100 + make. My neighbor told me he LOVED to hear them chatter. I no longer give it another though.

I have 3 budgies and as is their nature they like to talk and squawk every once and a while. I like this because its a reassurance that they are healthy birds! In comparison to other parrots they are extremely quiet. It may sound loud to you but I doubt that a budgie would make enough noise to disturb your neighbor more than any of the morning birds outside would :D
