plucked severe mini macaw what to do

not sure what to do with him, supposed to be around 7 years old, is not plucking as bad as when i got him about 2 months ago,the pins are getting out a little now before he clips them or pulls them out.

not sure what to do, doesn't like the sink, doesn't like spray bottles, doesn't like the shower, only fine mist from what comes off me, not sure what to do, definately lets me know what he don't approve of, as well as the mood swings that are unexpected, but he doesn't bit, seems to have a good personality and great possibility, but i have never dealt with macaws or any other big bird, so i am a little lost, the biggest i have bred/dealt with is quakers and i know these macaws and toos and other big birds are emotional to a degree and in a different class then tiels, conures, lovies, quakers.

oh and can't really be manhandled too well even in a towel, pinned down when first got here to trim beak and nails, a major production, took both of us and almost needed a third, not sure how people do the full size macaws.

First thing is to rule out any medical condition that might be causing the plucking. Then, if it if's determined to be psychological in nature, then come back and I am sure that the macaw people here will be more than happy to help you with possible solutions.

Patti is right, have a vet be sure its not a medical condition, if hes new to you then its a good idea for a vet checkup anyway. be sure to use an avian specialist even if it takes a bit of a drive. there are as many reasons for plucking as there are feathers to be plucked, 9 times out of 10 its a trial and error process that requires a great deal of patience on your part.. the reward is great though :) good luck!

Get this baby to an avian certified vet in your area ASAP! There could be a serious medical condition going on with this baby -

there is a link to look up the closest vet to you that is certified. PLEASE don't take him to any vet, or a vet that has seen birds. He need top notch medical care to rule out anything deadly going on with him.
