MFids THANKS for all the info you looked up. Good job of informing us us all.

My vet is Broadview Animal and Bird Hospital, Drs. Shaw and Wolf. I don't know why I need to even state this since only one person seems to be overly concerned about this fact. Info on this thread merely replied back to a person asking a valid question and seems to have turned into a major issue -- by only one poster objecting to bird owners using ACV.

Everyone has a right to their opinion. No one is forcing anyone to try the ACV treatment. If one has any "concerns" then DON'T try it. Yes, check with your vet. I already stated this fact. All I said is that ACV works for me. Nooooo, it won't help if your bird has a major disease. You will still need to consult a vet (veterinarian, that is -- not a veteran).

One thought: Most doctors in the medical world do not like patients to consider "natural" remedies. Well, yahhhh, doctors lose money in kickbacks they get for prescriptions. Ever think maybe some veterinarians "might" think this same way over losing money for medical treatments????? Everyone has a right to their own opinion, though, and that includes anyone posting on this site or any professional medical person.

I am sure I will be beat up for these comments, but my opinions stand.

I took Sunny for her first vet visit yesturday. She recieved a clean bill of health. I asked about the apple cider vinegar in her water. She told me 1 tablespoon to a gallon of water is good for her. She said I could give that to her everyday if she would drink it she suggested that I try giving it to her 2 or 3 days out of the week until she gets use to it. So I will surely be trying to do that. I would like to say thanks for the information because I didn't know this could help her.

    Monica,

Thank you for the in dept review and recommendations on ACV. As you know I'm an avid user of ACV and GSE for my birds as well as for myself. Does ACV work for a yeast infection? Yes, I have followed it with a lab microscope from the day I discovered budding yeast for several days and it was gone. I have seen the same type of results with GSE. Does ACV or GSE keep bacteria at a lower level in water, the answer is again yes.

You have listed links to many uses of ACV. In the past couple of years avian vets are leaning towards the holistic medicines rather tha antibiotics and antifungals if they have time on their side.

You know the birds we have and the quality care we give them!

Thank you, all for this enjoyable discussion. Lets count the votes now.

One against ACV. Everyone else posting here is for ACV. :P

Should we close the voting down now since it appears:
    l) A lot of avian vets have actually approved ACV use.
    2) Many of us experienced and newer parrot owners have had success with ACV.
    3) A lot of good articles have been written about ACV use for birds, animals, humans.

Disclaimer, this treatment does not take the place of a vet check. (had to add this because you know who will be jumping in next...) :)
