Crooked Beak

Postby Parrotpapa on Thu May 01, 2008 11:29 pm

My B & G Macaw has a crooked upper beak. Does anyone know if there is a way to help it grow strait? Im told it was from being handfed as a chick he is now 5 years old.

Depending on how crooked it is will depend on how well you'll be able to fix it. A crooked beak isn't necessarily due to handfeeding (although many people say that, if that were true then we'd probably be seeing a LOT more crooked beaks than we are seeing now). I'm thinking it might have something to do with the chick instead....

Your best bet however is to find an avian vet who can do beak trims to try and straighten out the beak. It may not be possible to get it completely straight, but if the beak doesn't look entirely all that good, then getting trims may help get it into some better shape.
