Why is that if hybrids are so bad?
How many blue and gold macaws are bred, compared to the number of hybrids? A more relevant comparison would be between the proportions of blue and golds offered for adoption, compared to the proportion of hybrids. Even that wouldn't be an entirely fair comparison: So long as hybrids are vastly scarcer they remain a specialty market more likely to be exploited by knowledgeable buyers. Given the market as it now stands, anyone who buys a macaw on a whim or whilst poorly informed is most likely to end up with a blue and gold.
