Types of scarlets

Postby HH1963 on Sun Jan 27, 2008 9:05 am

Hi All
I have two Scarlets, One is a rescue who was neglected to the point of abuse the other an adoption, the rescue"Myli" destroys her feathers however is very very very slowly getting better. Skittles who was adopted is fine. My question is this how can you tell what kind of Scarlets they are when only one is completely feathered.....Myli's (DNA FEMALE SCARLET)head is very dark fire engine red Skittles head(DNA MALE SCARLET) is a lighter almost wash out red with yellow tipeed feathers and no green waht so ever anywhere else. also myli has green tipped feathers untill she chops them off. I've haerd and red there is a "Mexican Scarlet" and a " bolivian Scarlet" can any one enlighten me a little more on this.

Thanks Rick and the gang
p.s. also looking for a single or pair of militaries.

Have you tried this site? http://www.parrotpro.com/scarlet.php

I have no clue how you'd tell on a naked bird, though. I'm also guessing that many, if not most, Scarlets are a mix of the different varieties/geographic area types.

Hi Was reading about macaws the other day to find out about B&G subspecies and I came on scarlets It said that the Bolivian have a dark red and greenish in the yellow and is a smaller bird. the Panama columbia scarlet was the biggest and was brighter red and has no blue or green in the yellow and the yellow in the wing is a was wider. Thats about all I read because I was looking for info on B&Gs
Always love you bird as you love yourself or more.
