My B&G prefers unshelled nuts! There's not much he won't do to get one. I give him about 3 nuts a day and I use them as rewards instead of just putting them in his food bowl.

    Nut in the shell

Postby PurpleHeart on Mon Jan 14, 2008 8:24 pm

Natures best invention, to shell a nut, apply one huge MACAW beak! Man o man can they go through 'em in a heart beat. Ever watch them? They have it down to a science... using their massive beak and tiny tongue they can move that nut around and crack it just right without droping it and leaving the meat in their beak and the shell goes crashing down... ha ha ha got to love it.

Our birds would think something was wrong with only couple of nuts a day. They need them, all of ours get an assortment of Almonds, macadamin(sp) walnuts, Brazil, Pine ect.Everyday
