Well It all depends on the birds personality. Just like people. Ive seen baby birds that are hand fed that will go to anyone and some that dont want to be touched. My children were all very calm and I had them help me feed Baby our B&G baby. They would all pet her and talk to her sweetly. They all grew up together and she is still sweet to almost everyone. There were times when she got beaky and a little rough with the girls but in time we tought her to be gentle. It was the bad twos . The girls also learned not to get Baby to wound up and to leave her alone if she did. Birds and childern arent for everyone but it can be done. With suppervision and love. also look for the right bird dont buy the first one you come acrossed. Spend time with the bird with your kids with you and tell them to be very calm. To see how the bird reacts and so on. Ill be around if you need to talk. Mark
Always love you bird as you love yourself or more.

I have had my macaw since he was 12 weeks old and my children are now 7 and 3, and Carter just turned 3 today :D My experience is that a baby macaw, growing up with the kids and the kids noise seems to work well. I know several people who have done this and I do not personallhy know of any one who this has not worked for. My kids can enteract with my birds, but they do not handle them if I am not right there. I would say, as ong as you are aware of the extra work you are getting into, and you are ready for the added noise............ I know of a good breeder in Ohio who will ship if you are interested, pm me and i will pass on his information. I know that his babies are well socialized and cared for, infact, I have seen only the sweetest GW come from his pairs, which have been breeding for several years. I have seen at least 3 generations of his birds and they are all great birds.

I've always had smaller birds while growing up and now I have a scarlete with a 2 and 4 year old and Baby (Birds name) is only three months old the children have had house rules about not running in the house and what not and before we got Baby the kids were around her at the pet shop til she weaned it depend on you more than the kids my older is still a bit afraid but she has special needs but my younger 2 yr old feeds pets her and talk to Baby all the time supervised of course it depends on your strictness as well as rules

Hi

Oh, please do not get a cockatoo. I specialized in cockatoos for eight years and I have to say that they should not be sold anymore. There are to many sad tragic stories with these beautiful high strung birds and children should definately not be raised around them. Their powder alone is not good for children and other animals. I agree that Green Wings are not for children either. Takes special people to deal with Green Wings. I know they are thought to be gentle giants and I am sure with their owners and the right up bringing they can be, but my all time favorite is the Blue & Gold. I have run across a number of B&Gs that were raised by younger children and they have been well mannered and fun. They seem to do well with the high energy of children. But with your really young children, just be very careful and keep them away from the big beak. I would hate to see an accident happen.
