I feed my Hyacinths (up to eight pairs) since July a variety of nuts, pine, hazel, chestnuts, walnuts, brazel, almonds and palm nuts off palm trees.
Since speaking to Dr. Heather (who climbed into the caves to hold and examine the Hyacinth chicks) about their diet, the Hyacinth does not eat macadamia nuts so I stopped feeding any macadamia nuts to my Hyacinths.
They do have at will all day and night a variety of mixed nut available at their will to eat. No pellet is supplied at all to my Hyacinths. Fresh fruits are and those veggies they like are also supplied.
Their blood count is great since the change. One more note of which I do give my Hyacinths, FRONTIER KELP is also avialable in a side dish for my Hyacinths.
Their is a major change in behavior with the screams for mac nuts is over. My opinion is the Hyacinth is just as addicted to the mac nut as surely once we had problems with the sunflower seed.
To much of one thing is never good, a variety if available is best.
JMO and experience soon twenty years.
