Swindiana,
I decided to go with a baby greenwing. This bird is so socialized that they sleep with it too.I can't imagine what their sheets are like. They decided to keep the hybrid as they are very attached to her. They started out as breeders and found that they didn't have the heart to sell the babies. They are selling me this one because our avian vet said that I would give it an excellent home.We are located in Northern Ca. I think a baby is a great way to go for a first time macaw owner. They have 16 huge macaws in their living room. Wow. The noise!

I am so happy for you. Tell me, is he quite loud? That is my one and only concern. Not for me but for my husband and kids(10 and 12). I understand it depends totally on the personality. If they are loud a lot, can you discourage it in some way? I know a certain amout of noise(twice a day, etc) is inevitable. Thanks for the info.

Actually we have a CAG as well & when he wants to be, he's louder than the green wing. Sure he yells from time to time but we knows that if he is a bad bird he goes back to is cage for a birdy time out. That seems to work most generally.

My GW is the most vocal of all the macaws in our house. Not much of a screamer, but he babbles on all day long, talking in English, making "monkey/jungle sounds", calling for his buddy, Bob, etc. He only screams when he's separated from his friend.

Just the Macaw- we keep new cages on hand. Learned our lesson of Big bird on the way and no cage or appropriate size on hand. This is our first ever "free" bird. We feel extremly fortunate to have been asked to give him a home.
