Hahn's/ Noble question...

Postby JKnox0526 on Tue Sep 18, 2007 12:13 pm

We did as much research and preparation as possible before bringing Jewel home (we did research and then had to wait 2 wks for her to finish weaning, which gave us more time), however, there is very little information on Hahn's/Noble Macaws specifically. So besides all of the general birdie information and all the Macaw general information (which seems to be geared to the large macaws) is there anything we should now special about our new baby? Also what size/type toy do you give them? She loves to chew on leather and wood so she has some we made for her, but it seems the toys that are right for her size are not sturdy enough for her.

A friend says "I have a hahn's!! Love him to pieces! Nippy, talkative, playful, wants to be on me, cuddly and funny. He will crawl inside my shirt. Loves to preens my facial hairs, moles..."

It's less a matter of size than of the type wood, how hard it is. If you aren't familiar with identifying wood by type, as I'm not  just take a few pieces of toys she destroyed TOO fast to a bird store and have the clerk show you toys made of harder wood. Note the names of those woods and order some of them to try. Or buy them at the store if you trust it and like their prices. I don't buy that way anymore, but I've learned the hard way

Your friend just discibed Jewel. I was about to ask if it was normal for them to climb into shirts because Jewel just climbed into the sleeve of my husband's shirt (which he's wearing) and went to sleep while making kissing noises...
