Sorry about how they treated your bird. I've heard others that weren't happy with BP. Hopfully he will get over this quickly. I'm sure the feathers feel different to him. If there are ragged edges, you might try to clean them up (trim ends) to see if he stops picking at them.

I don't let anyone take my birds out of my sight to work on. My vet knows I will follow her wherever she takes my bird. Always spell out exactly what you want done. Better yet learn to do it yourself. Easier with 2 people, 1 to hold and 1 to trim. You know better than they did about your birds feathers.
Hope he's feeling better today.

Bently

OMG...so sorry about Bently. The poor guy. What did they say? You didnt ask for a wing trim so what would possess them to do it? I dont have any experience with Birds of Paradise but I have been warned agaisnt them a few times. There is a place that is now just miles up the road from Birds of Paradise called Todd Marcus Birds Exotic...they are awesome there and I would totally trust them. Hope he is feeling better today.

The positive thing about this experience is that you made a firm decision to not go back there! That means you learned something and that is always a good thing even if the learning part was difficult! Enjoy Bentley and please keep us posted. 8)

Hello All. I am Thom, Bentley's other parent :P and I don't have much to add but I had an extremely rough 24hours after Bentley's wings were improperly clipped, putting it quite prudently..

This not only placed extreme stress apon Bentley, but it did much of the same to me, due to my already diminished physical condition. Bentley has been languid, and his appetite decreased substantially, but this should only be a short term situation.

I am a true wacky exotic bird lover who has owned & trained many species since the late 60s early 70s. So I am well aware of their fun loving curiosity, intelligence and quirkiness that makes all exotic birds more family, then just pets. 8)

I would like to thank all who(m) replied with heartfelt wishes and encouragement. So Thanx to one & all for your support :!: ...

cheers from ole' tee'jay.

Hi, sorry to hear about the wing trim. The best way to avoid this happening again is to lean to trim feathers yourself. You can find many good articles on the web on how to do it properly. Good scissors are a must! Good luck.

I have not had Schreech's wings trimmed for months now. He looks better and seems to love not having his wings clipped! Of course I am extra cautious when having him outside, etc. but for now, we are just going with it! He hates having his wings clipped!

*he has never attempted to fly except once when he first came to be with us at 16 weeks old.

When he is outside he is right with me or in a cage or with Ron. We never just leave him sitting out there, etc. Not gonna happen. Most of time he is in my lap. LOL

I would write a "FORMAL" letter of complaint. I have been to this store and also to Todd Marcus/Birds exotic.

They will not want the bad publicity.

I hope they didn't clip him so fiercly that the feathers will have trouble coming back in??

If you choose to clip, as Gary said, it isn't difficult to do yourself and there are plenty of sites on the net that show you how.

Take care --extra treats for Bently.
