Macaw mutations....

Postby peacockboy on Fri Apr 20, 2007 7:42 pm

I have a picture saved on my computer of a yellow (lutino?) blue and gold macaw. The photo is actually of two yellow babies and one normal. Does anyone know anything about the yellow macaws. I'd heard that they were located in Texas, but that was 2/3 years ago and have heard nothing of them since. About fifteen years ago I was in southern California visiting and I ran across a "lilac" colored blue and gold but haven't heard anything else about those either. TIA

macaw mutations

Postby alhee on Fri Apr 20, 2007 8:31 pm

About 20 years ago there was a published article with photos of what might be 2 blue-and-white scarlet macaw (?) mutations, in the Philipines. I just saw those same photos on a web search on hybrids, with the original post listing them as possible hybrids, but a correction by another party as to those birds being mutations. I'll try to find that site again.

Here's the site (the only one I know of) that documents the Lutino Blue and Golds...

Here's a couple shots of an "albino" scarlet (I'd rather refer to it as a "blue mutation" scarlet macaw)

That blue scarlet is a pretty bird, who is working with them? its hard to imagine a macaw bieng any more beautifull than they are naturally, IMO a big greenwing in superb feather is a mind blowing bird:) but some mutations are attractive birds no doubt!

I don't know of anyone working with the blue mutation scarlet macaws... and I can't recall ATM where the white scarlet image came from originally... Although there is a breeder who's working with opaline, blue mutation, and opaline blue B&G's.
