how cheap is too cheap........

Postby georgie on Thu Apr 19, 2007 5:06 pm

I have been browsing the pets/breeders boards for birds for sale to get an idea of what is out there and prices across the country. There is quite a discrepancy.
Lately I noticed some Hyacinthes for sale at Bargain basement prices - $1000 with cage for example in one case.

Now to me, and I am not experienced in this , this seems ultra cheap for a hyacinthe, which if I am correct is one of the highest priced bird s out there? Pls correct me if I am incorrect on this,

This just sounds too darn cheap a price to be true???
What do you Macaw experts think?

Georgie

Cheap

Postby swindiana57 on Thu Apr 19, 2007 6:55 pm

Well I'm no macaw expert, but I can usually spot a scam when I see one & that one I have seen & it just has to be. As my momma used to say if it looks to good to be true it probably is.

Hyacinth macaws normally sell for $8k-$15K. I personally know and have handled one of these great blue giants! Her name is Bluejeans! I've also seen a couple others.... so cute and gentle! But of course they are not to be underestimated!

If you see them selling for any less than $8k it's most likely a scam... as otherwise the birds would have been grabbed up quickly... but sometimes you never know between someone who's really looking for the right home for their hyacinth vs a scam...

He replied again.........

Postby georgie on Sat Apr 21, 2007 7:49 pm

and asked for all the details of where I live, etc.....just as I was told above he would! I did not get pictures though.
I hope he has a long long wait for me to reply and to get my money!

This smelled so bad in his original posts, but I guess he must snare some unaware and silly people otherwise why do it?

Posted: Mon Apr 23, 2007 1:47 pm Post subject: Great pair of hyacith macaws

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a great pair of hyacith macaw, but too much noise for the neighbors!
These are two amazing animals and they're madly in love. Sadly, we have no place to keep them as our neighbors are complaining constantly.
These birds are approximately 7 years old and have laid 8 eggs (3 healthy chicks produced, 2 brand new eggs) this season alone. They are larger than other pairs I've seen.
We acqired them from an avian vet and they have a very special diet which will be shared with the buyer. It seems to aid productivity.
Will consider shipping.
Nest box is included. Cage can be purchased

Here's something from another forum... and this is coming from an 11 year old... (maybe he's 13 now???) that has no help from his parents. He's from Georgia...

hi i am back sorry i havent been on in such a long time my computer wouldnt let me reply to any topics or polls. but now that iam back i have alot to say. first of all i sold my goffins too she was sold to a really nice lady and i used the money too get back my two hyacinths and finish most of the taming. and i also bought my green cheeked conure a new cage and a whole bunch of toys and treats for his birthday, he turned 1 in march and a couple weeks ago i realized that he was the only bird for me so i sold the two hyacinths for two thousand a piece, yes i know that is cheap but the woman that i sold them to has been so nice to me and one of them is not fully tame so i could not go any higher with the price. a couple of weeks ago i was bit by an amazon a had to get some more stitches but only a few this time. i started homeschooling in december so i have more time to spend with my gcc. i hope to graduate from early and go to harvard to become an avian vet. and in one of the recent bt articles i read about fostering parrots and since i dont want to own another parrot, i thought about short term fostering. but for now its just me and my best friend jack the green cheek conure. there is so much other stuff to tell you but i dont have the time right now.
