Postby swindiana57 on Wed Apr 18, 2007 10:58 am

Hi,

My name is Chris & we are about to adopt, I say about it's still a couple of months off, a baby green wing. I have read all I can on here but was wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions on other material purchase or places on web to go for more info on our soon to be new baby?

Lots of wood toys, I make our GW chains of 2x4's i buy bags of pre-drilled toy parts and give her all the big ones. They also love the stainless foot toy maze thing. I fill these weekly, along with different textured perches all over- they love to climb, she also loves her swing, they also need Large Cage and they are escape artist and will let other birds out as well. But we Love Gypsy, she is a clown, loving, cranky and very smart.

    Thanks for the great input!!!!!!

He/she will have a 36" X 48" cage & several stands around the house to play on. As well as a 6' outdoor aviary for those nice days outside.

Congratulations, Chris! A baby Greenwing is an excellent choice for a first macaw. They are big, lovable & very intelligent. LJ has about the nicest birdroom, and set up, for her fids that I have seen yet. Her suggestions modeled on what she does for her Greenwing could be ideal for you. Sounds like you are already on the right track, though. Since you also have a M2 make sure you have a good air filter and ventilation. Looking forward to seeing pix of your new arrival when he/she comes home :) All the Best, Mary

Thankyou Mary Xmas. We work very hard to make sure all our birds are happy/content and healthy. Big YES to air purifying and humidifiers, this really make a differance with molts, dust, pollen.

Me too with the horses- well use to- will again, Yhea its easy, no grates to scrub, put pans where grates use to go- and do straw. I daily pick every other day clean, wipe down inside, perches and outside, much faster. All our birds love to play in it, no bugs, easy!

I agree with the wood toys. Lots and lots and lots of them. And our GW, Jack, loves his bell. It's his favorite toy. When we rotate it out he goes into withdrawal.

    Green Wing Baby

    Postby swindiana57 on Mon Apr 23, 2007 9:05 pm

We look forward to bringing her/him home, but it will be a few months from now.

We have a a fairly good air filter & will be getting another between now & then.

L J it sounds as if you have this macaw / too thing together. Any other hints or tips?

All of ours have been woderful, just filter air, keep them clean, I do ours everyother day. Humidifier really helps keep even humidity- I use year round, low in warmmer months high in cooler ones. I clean daily- always wipe down outside of cages, alot of people neglect the outside and back- this is where alot of dust collects. Our Too's are calm and Macaws are rowdy clowns- so it evens the flock.
