Adopted GW Macaw

Postby mainmusic on Thu Apr 12, 2007 7:09 pm

We just adopted a 14 mo. old GW form a very from some very nice people in Pa. The bird was very much a part of their family and we want him to be the same here. He ate dinner, rolled on his back and was just a big baby for them. I know he is going trough a lot now he had a 1000 mile car trip and is now trusting of us yet. I have set up his cage the same way it was at his home and feeding him all the thingd he liked at home. If I want him to step up he wants to bite.Once he has taken his chunk he will come up but does not like it. We have 3 other GWs that we have had for 12 years and were hand feed by me so I have never had to try to win one over like this. I would lke any feed back that I could get. I'm leaning towards leveing him in his cage for a few day just to let him get used to things around here before I push him to hard.

Yep- takes time and alot of patients to gain their trust. Ive found they go thorough mourning previos owners, so be patient and go slow. Seeing the other Macaws interact with you will help ease and settle him.
