interesting fact about the hybrids postings

Postby Carters Dad on Mon Apr 02, 2007 8:38 pm

So, NOT TO START A FIGHT, PLEASE....but did anyone notice that the person who started the whole hybrid debate never posted again? I would say that we (all of us who posted) were taken for a ride and we let it happen and work out because we lost focus of what counts, keeping our birds loved and safe. please guys (gals) please, lets agree to disagree and get back to talking about the wonderful pets we have and share the love, not the poo flinging and all that comes with it.

If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. The debate has a purpose that's far more significant than any one person who asked a question. It doesn't matter whether that person ever reads the responses as long as others do. I'm sorry it bothers you, but those who breed hybrid parrots and those who buy babies from them bother me.

I'm hoping hard your poor bird is found and returned home soon.

    Oh there was a fight?

Postby jjoe on Tue Apr 03, 2007 7:09 pm

And I missed it? Oh well. I don't think I'll even open that thread. If you have a missing bird, I also hope that it is found safe and sound.

There are already enough unpleasant people and situations in my face, live and in person, every day. I don't need to go out to the WWW looking for them.

ok, I think my point was misunderstood.

I am not arguing about anything, I just find it interesting how the "debate" took off and the poster never talked again. It seems that someone was trying to start an argument. Just found it interesting, thats all.

Good, yes, I had misunderstood. Many people do get upset whenever chat veers from cute birds to ethical issues or any hint of conflict. Thanks for clairfying. But have you found your bird?

    Hoping hard, Paca

I'm sorry, yes. She spent the night in the trees behind our house. It took all day to catch her, but we were lucky this time and she was not hurt. Thank you for being concerned.

    interesting fact about hybrid posting............

Postby caraparrots on Wed Apr 04, 2007 9:57 pm

    Hi Carter's Dad,

If you're referring to "olboy" who posted on 1/16/07, inquiring about the personality traits of the Scarlet Macaw & how they may relate to a Camelot that he was considering purchasing, he listened for any info that might have been offered to help him make his decision, but got kinda fed up when the conversation turned into a debate & finally "hate speak". He was sincerely looking for advice & information.....how silly of him to think that this forum had that to offer.

Anyway, he continued his search & came across my phone #....turns out we live only 15 minutes apart. We talked numerous times....I referred him to other breeders, sights on the internet, etc., the Macaw "Bible" by Abramson & welcomed his family when they asked to visit my aviary....most breeders do not permit same. Oh s**t!! Now this is going to start a whole new screamfest! His interests were also leaning towards Eclectus & I gave him a referral. But he came back a 2nd time & wound up purchasing a baby.......OMG.......BLUE & GOLD.....PURE SPECIES.......from my hybrid house of child prostitution!

He's quite knowledgeable & always looking to learn more. In his final year at a college in Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Drives many hours into Chicago.....frequently.....to visit his B&G. Spent all Spring Break with her instead of getting crazy in Ft. Laudersale......or wherever kids go to get crazy these days! Has worked each summer at Brookfield Zoo.....hopes to find employment there after graduation. Serious guy...was seriously looking for whatever assistance forum might have offered......not trying to "start" any kind of trouble at all. Sometimes people don't have sadistic, ulterior motives....sometimes they're just being friendly. He was quite genuine.

What a, judgemental, unkind, and presumptious opinion!
Debate, and clarification, are healthy expressions, for most people.

BTW, This is an exceptionally polite forum, compared to several others out there, IMO.

    "OMG"
Why? What is wrong with choosing a B&G? The most beautiful photos on barbtheoldbirdlady.com are the ones of the Blue & Gold Macaw mama feeding her adorable little B&G baby. Those are so totally sweet! (Can any of your mixed species from your self proclaimed "hybrid house of child prostitution" feed like that?) If I was in the market for a baby macaw, those lovely images would move me, and sell me on a baby Blue & Gold in a heartbeat. They are just so tender & genunine, irregardless of that pitiful, snide & arrogant self-ridicule justification in mock defense.

    Mary X,

I find it difficult trying to get my point (s) across via the internet, on forums, such as this. Being of the "pre-computer" generation....& a lot of other "pre's, for that matter, I'm used to talking on the phone, or face to face with people. I feel a lot either gets lost in translation or misconstrued via communication such as this. But don't get me wrong, these "forums" can definitely be a terrific asset...kinda like an interactive, live GOOGLE.

I just wanted Carter's Dad to know that Olboy was not a "trouble maker"...trying to start another hybrid/anti-hybrid riot in the forum. Nor was he ungrateful for any info offered.

And I just thought you....especially you, might find it quite ironic & maybe even chuckle, that someone you regard as your "nemesis"...a breeder that specializes in multi-gen hyb's, would actually choose NOT to push a hybrid on a client......even though that's what they came looking for in the 1st place.......but to sell them a pure species.

I never said a thing was "wrong" about selecting my Blue & Gold baby....or anyone else's B&G......I think, by now, you realize I love all Macaws....I'm totally color-blind. There was a little song I remember from childhood...something about "Red & yellow, black & white, All are precious in his site.......I just include pink with purple polka dots, that's all. And the "child prostitution" line I stole from you.......

Perhaps, someday in the future, he WILL choose to add a hybrid to his flock.......or maybe you guys will talk him out of it. He's a very intelligent young man. I'm sure he can make up his own mind....based on his own thoughts, research & conclusions.

I don't think I've ever had a client so devoted to a bird as he is to this baby. Just because his home is nearby, his college is 7-8 hours drive away.......& I'm ready to get a key to my door made for him....he's here so often. We almost think we've gained another son instead of selling one of our kind of "kids"......

Even though I don't participate much in forums (I'm usually napping), I do agree MX, that upat6 maintains an excellent one by anyone's standards.

Where the heck do you find time to nap? I never get a nap in. It's just GO,GO, GO, all day long, between working (excessively long hours lately for tax season) plus taking proper care of, and of course spending quality time with, & loving each & all of the fids.

    "I'm totally color-blind"..........

MX again....you manage to alter my entire point by focusing on only those 4 words........rather than the additional words that followed. But I'm sure other people did, infact, read the rest of the way & know my meaning exactly.....that I, for one, am not a racist.

    "I'm usually napping"...........

".......taking proper care of, and of course spending quality time with, & loving each & all of the fids."

What not so subtle "implications".....rather snide, un-called for & just plain mean spirited.......... & indicative of your desire to display your animosity in this forum...... rather than the informative Q & A for which it's intended.

    yada, yada, yada......................amen.......B

I for one am sick of the "hate talk" on certain posts here.....and if I was someone new on here, I would be turned off and decide to look elsewhere for my info if I read things like that. Birdsnways has an awesome macaw chat room and I have seen but one, maybe two, hate talk instances on there. I continue to read posts on the macaw connection, but shake my head when people decide to get into the flinging of names instead of focusing on parrot info and helping people out. Oh, and for the record, I'm owned by a beautiful loving baby Flame macaw that I wouldn't trade for the world.
