I don't have any air purifiers... but I need to comment on something... PLEASE do not use any air purifiers that have ionizers.... or if you do, make sure you can turn the ionizer OFF. The ionizers are NOT healthy for you OR your bird...

Most people that I've heard use air purifiers prefer to use a TRUE- HEPA (not LIKE-HEPA) air filters....

I believe the Holmes I can get at a Home Depot or Lowes, correct.

    Macaw and cockatoos

Postby Firebottom on Mon May 28, 2007 6:55 pm

I've had my macaw for 16 years and my umbrella for 6. When I first got my U2, they were housed in the same room. After 7 months it caused my macaw to have severe breathing difficulties and took 2 years for her to lose the "wheeze" after I separated them. And yes, my cages are spotless and my birds are in the shower every other day, there is good ventilation in the room / house.
As far as the corner cage, may I ask why you are considering it? It cuts the birds cubic living space down significantly and gw are huge birds! You may think you'll have him out "most of the day every day" but realistically that is not always going to be the case. What is you have to get a part time job or even just go on vacation? These are extremely intelligent and busy birds. I think cage size is the single most overlooked factor in bird cage. Why not try a 40 x 80 double macaw cage? They are only 600. on ebay brand new (no I don't sell them!). Your macaw will thank you! Good luck and remember, we chose to limit their space from hundreds of square miles to a small cage. Be generous. My macaw has a 6x12 and she uses every square INCH every single day!!

I have a total of 5 Austin Air filters in my house for my fids! I am hooked on them. They are very well made, hold up for years, and are fairly easy to clean compared to the others. I even have 2 of the newest Austin Air Filters, the Pet Machines! Yes, they are a little expensive, but are worth the extra dime.
