Red Front

Postby jercie on Fri Mar 16, 2007 5:12 pm

I have been researching macaws and have decided upon a red front. However, I am having a very hard time locating one. I was hoping that if anyone had one or knew where I could get one, that would be great! :D Please if anyone has any info that would be great, even just general info I might not know would be great! I am located in NE PA, if that helps. Thanks again.

Here's the best red-front breeder. Wendy has a long waiting list but it's worth the wait!

We have decided to get a macaw & I would like to know why you choose a Red Front over all the others, please?

Thanks

The main reason I've decided on a Red Front was the size. I was also very interested in a B&G, but wanted something smaller. I found that the Red Front had a personality most resembling that of a B&G, but in a smaller body. :)

I. C. We have somewhat decided on a Green Wing for the same personality reason, but we wanted a bigger bird. Not sure why, just do. We have the room in the house for it & an outdoor aviary as well. So we said why not.

Thanks,

Good luck with the GW. I honestly don't think I'm ready for a bird of that calibur so I figure I'll start smaller. This will be my first macaw. I currently have a tiel and an ekkie. Wish you the best!

We adopted a 8 yr old GW and she is wonderful, alot of personality. She loves my husband, but I can still handle her and have studied her body-eye language and can read when to back off. She is alot of bird but a wonderful one.

Green wing v. Red front

Postby swindiana57 on Sat Mar 17, 2007 4:04 pm

At this time I just think the personality of the green wing fits us better. Guess we'll see, lol.

I know someone who has two RFs

Postby jjoe on Sun Mar 18, 2007 9:02 am

They're not as common as the B&Gs; I don't know why Lori chose the RFs, but having known Zuni (Lori's RF) and hearing the stories, I would not say that Zuni's personality is anything at all like my B&G. Personally, comparing just the two of them, I would say that the RF is a little more high strung than a B&G. Again, I haven't known scads of them to be able to make a broad and accurate comparison, but knowing the two of them, my own opinion is that B&Gs are mellower. Size wise, the difference is almost negligible when it comes to cage, food, noise, toenail holes in the arm or beak damage when you get caught off guard LOL.

RFs sort of remind me of militarys in the look.

You probably already spotted it, but there are two red front macaws for sale in the breeder section. They are somewhere here in Indiana.

Actually no, I haven't. I've been too busy e-mailing every breeder I could find from one side of the country to the other. Thank you very much for the tip!

And to the other comment...I never meant to imply that they have the same temperment as a B&G, I just meant from the research I'm doing they seem to be grouped together in the sweetness column. But any contradiction to that is welcome as I am trying to find out everything I can!

My 2 cents is all in how you raise them. We have B&G's, Greenwing and a Scarlet and all are different, but I wouldnt trade them for anything.

Macaw

Postby swindiana57 on Mon Mar 19, 2007 8:25 am

I tend to agree with you, but it's easier to make a easy going bird a laid back bird, than it is one that's more high strung.
