Heated Perches

Postby TimTatko on Mon Feb 26, 2007 10:19 pm

I will be getting a baby blue and gold Macaw sometime in April and I have been preparing for his new home. I was wondering what the opinion was out there on heated perches. Does your bird like them? Are they worth it? Is it necessary?

Also any resource web sites that are reasonably priced for large bird items such as toys, food, etc. is appreciated.

Don't see any need for a heated perch. I would be afraid the bird could get to the wire. Some have a "heat lamp", to use if bird gets sick. That's the only time they might need extra heat. My house is sometimes 6 degrees in the morning and my crew is fine.
Best site for toys is www.greyfeathertoys.com
Monie is very fussy and has birds of her own.
Some foods I get a Drsfostersmith.com another place is NY bird supply. I'm sure others will have more places. You probably can do a search and come up with some.
Do you have a cage yet? The bigger the better!

    Darlene,

Did you say sometimes your house is 6 degrees in the morning? OMG I freak out when my bird room gets to 56-57 degrees in the morning. I thought 6 degrees would be too cold for parrots.
