Postby olboy on Wed Jan 17, 2007 6:57 pm

Once i get my macaw, should i allow my grey to play with it?
Besides the eyes, what are other aggressive signs?

They can get lots of enjoyment from being in the same room but not close enough to touch. The macaw could kill the grey really fast. Please don't risk that. Life with birds is too good without taking such a risk.

I agree- we have 3 Macaws and 4 others and no-one"plays together" all have their own space. Granted they all talk and watch each other but they are not like dogs-cats or kids.

I have to agree with the others. Our Macaws love the company of our DYH but are never allowed to play together. They may be best buddies but one wrong move tempers flare and someone is badly hurt or worse. They are fine when they can see each other but no direct contact.

we had a quaker escape artist who got out of her cage - she landed on one of our macaw cages and started the macaw and lost a foot from the whole ordeal ---- $400 and a week at the vets and worry that she wasn't going to pull through is what you have to face.

We DO allow our macaws to play together with supervision - but only with each other; our baby macaws do play with the dogs and each other very well -- but macaws can get set in their ways and a smaller bird just doesn't have a prayer! I would keep them separated!
