We saw an ad in the paper for a B&G so I called to get his story. when I cxalled I was told the price but was toild that ioncluded his huge 4' x 5' x 3' cage. Buddy and I went down 2 hours down the road to check him out, When we arrived his huge cage was a very rusty cat crate covered in poop, with no toys and a single 1 inch PVC plastic pipe pearch that was too slippery for him to stand on. His food bowl has cockatiel seed and his water bowl was half filled with poop. Buddy and I looked at each other and were thinking the cage was trash at best, but we couldn't walk away from the bird and leave him in thier hands. We told the lady we would take him home. She went for a towel, drapped it over him in the cage and grabbed him by the neck and yanked him out of the cage with him screaming for his life the entire time. These people have another B&G that they have supposedly had for 25 years yet they don't know how to treat birds with kindness or how to clean thier cages or what to feed them.
So off we went to get him a new cage at the parrot store, got him a bunch of new toys and perchs. Got his nails trimmed. His feet were in terrible shape from the rusty cage and poor perch. We got his feet treated for cuts and swollen toes and his wings trimmed. So this turned out to be about a $1700 day for us.
Once we got him home we assembled his cage, installed the new toys, perches, food and water bottle. We opened his carrier and held it to the cage door figuring he was scared to death at this point. He came right out of the carrier, climbed onto his new perch, went straight for his peanuts and drank some water. Seems happier than a pig in poo.
So here is Mickey, our newest family member:
