We saw an ad in the paper for a B&G so I called to get his story. when I cxalled I was told the price but was toild that ioncluded his huge 4' x 5' x 3' cage. Buddy and I went down 2 hours down the road to check him out, When we arrived his huge cage was a very rusty cat crate covered in poop, with no toys and a single 1 inch PVC plastic pipe pearch that was too slippery for him to stand on. His food bowl has cockatiel seed and his water bowl was half filled with poop. Buddy and I looked at each other and were thinking the cage was trash at best, but we couldn't walk away from the bird and leave him in thier hands. We told the lady we would take him home. She went for a towel, drapped it over him in the cage and grabbed him by the neck and yanked him out of the cage with him screaming for his life the entire time. These people have another B&G that they have supposedly had for 25 years yet they don't know how to treat birds with kindness or how to clean thier cages or what to feed them.

So off we went to get him a new cage at the parrot store, got him a bunch of new toys and perchs. Got his nails trimmed. His feet were in terrible shape from the rusty cage and poor perch. We got his feet treated for cuts and swollen toes and his wings trimmed. So this turned out to be about a $1700 day for us.

Once we got him home we assembled his cage, installed the new toys, perches, food and water bottle. We opened his carrier and held it to the cage door figuring he was scared to death at this point. He came right out of the carrier, climbed onto his new perch, went straight for his peanuts and drank some water. Seems happier than a pig in poo.

So here is Mickey, our newest family member:

You're both dear souls to save this poor bird, but please don't expose your other birds to possible illness. Quarantine carefully and have a thorough vet check with comprehensive bloodwork and other vital new-bird tests ASAP. Maybe you know all this and don't need me telling you, but please be careful to protect your others.

We always take all steps to assure healthy transactions. Im still very upset with these people and going to contact the SPCA on them to see if they can get the other one away from them.

He's not noisy at all, He was very scared when we first got him. He has settled in and seems to fit right in.

My heart and respect goes out to you and you husband. Ive been there before. There are those people out there that shouldnt have any pets . They dont know how to love. They are to lazy to take care of them. Two thumbs up. Mark

Thankyou Mary, Mickey has the largest cage on market and being changed to the dome top- really helped. He use to sit so he felt his toys camoflaged him but now he sits on perches at the front, to greet us. It really has paid off taking our time and letting him see we didnt mean any harm, and now I can do anything with him. It amazes me how even wild caught can with time become a treasured pet. We dont expect any of them to talk- or hands on, we except them as is and want them happy. For it to work this way is just mind blowing. So those who expressed I dont know what Im doing- HAHAHAAAAA on you! Again, I achieved
