Hi welcome to the world of macaws!!! A blood feather is a feather that is growning. It start out with a sheath around it. When the sheath turns white it can carefully be pinched between fingers to remove. Your bird will remove the ones he can reach. Plenty of baths while they are molting help to relieve the itching. If he breaks a blood feather and its bleeding hold flour or cornstarch on it until the bleeding stops.
Handle your baby and touch his feet and wings. Play peekaboo with a towel. These will help for later grooming or if medicines are neede.
Give him plenty of toys to chew. Different kind and size perches.
Most important is a well rounded healthy diet. Most prefer a good seed mix, maybe some pellets (natural not colored), sprouts and plenty of veggies and some fruits. The darker veggies have more nutrition.
sorry I went overboard on my answer. Put your bird in a carrier to take to the vet. If they are free in the car you don't have control over them an accident could hurt your bird or allow them to get out of car.
