Postby vicinyoface on Mon Nov 02, 2009 9:09 pm

Have a b/g macaw about 8 months old. he isn't much of a talker (or a screamer which is real good for me) was wondering how long it took other birds to start talking. when was your babies first word?
Sincerely,
Vic

I have a B&G & a Greenwing & the B/G is saying only 3 words & is 2.5 yrs but we don't work on it. The GW which is 9 months older only says 2 words & has just seemed to pick those up from the B/G. Like I said we don't work on it, we just love em. The Congo grey we have says approx. 50 words & whole sentences. So there you go.

Hi I have a 5yr old B&G . She started talking around 4 month. She talks like a african grey. Her father is a good talker to. we got he very young and had raised her. my wife talked to her all the time when she was young like josie was our child. I think thats why she talks in my wifes voise

    Hi
Petri is about 14 years old now. Most of the words she says she learned in the first 3 years. The K sound is very easy to for the macaws to say which is why the favoriate 4 letter word is so easy to pick up. I tried very hard to not use that word until I was reparing the guts in my tolet. I turned on the water and had a water leak and said the bad word very loadly. I heard an echo from the livingroom. I shook my head no no. I expained that she should not say that word. I was telling this story to a friend of mine and spelled the word out and Petri promtly repeated the word for me. My bird can spell. I said Petri please don't say that word. She really has not until one day she wanted to get off her perch and nothing she could do was working. She said the word in the right tone of frustration that any of us could express. It took everything I had not to laugh. Luckly no more repeats. Remember they can repeat everything they hear.

One of our favorite sing alongs is ba ba baba ba and she repeats ba ba and then make up various combination of ba ba baba ba bababa. This can get loud, but it is fun to make up a ba ba song.
