It has been my experience that Diopsittaca nobilis nobilis mature at a later age. Their weaning and fledging from parent raised clutches usually take up to 8 weeks and hand fed LONGER. It is based on this fact that most successful clutches are from adult pairs over 10 yrs of age. So you see they have plenty of time to learn :-)

In the past we raised them under the Ara species but later on their differences forced the new monotypic genus with the heading more similar such as the Diopsittaca nobilis cumanensis (Noble) Also with their similarities some of them have been cross bred in captivity so it is best to make sure that you have pure stock when breeding.

They were probably the most "fun birds" I have ever raised but then again I "was younger" then and had a completely different outlook on aviculture in general. Now I'm lucky to spend 45 minutes a day with my birds, getting them out of the cage and exercising them individually in order to keep them tame. I use to spend all day spoiling my "mini's"

Most (or perhaps all) of the conures and macaws copulate "side by side"
rather than by mounting, so there is no question about balance and "doing it right"
except for possibly heavily feathered vents in younger birds, and birds which
had not been set up for nesting for some time. Aside from age and health and season,
the size and location of the perches can also be a factor in successful fertilization.

Probably the first question that always comes to my mind is,
"Are you sure that you have a true pair ?"

Then again, some of my questions and comments have not been taken well.
All I can say is, "Don't shoot the mesenger."
