Yellow-collared macaw - Orange Collar?

Postby jimhcctx on Fri Aug 28, 2009 6:31 pm

Hello, I just purchased a pair of yellow collared macaws and the male's collar is actually bright orange. I thought finding information on this would be easier than it is, can anyone tell me anything about this, how rare it is, (or is it normal), and what the posibility is that the color will show up in the offspring? The birds are apprximatly 9-10 years old.

thank you

I asked on another site, and from what I was told, at one time, during the importation era, they were sought after more than the traditional YCM's. Of course the more they were imported, the more the demand went down. To my knowledge, they were never made a subspecies. Some believe it's just a natural mutation that occurs within the YC's. If its a mutation, it may show up in offspring, but I don't think it would be as bright as the dad's. Do you have any other YC's? I only have a single proven male in need of a mate.
