I've seen birds use their feet to scratch themselves with... and some who do poses. These poses may be something the bird does naturally, then a human sees it and makes a big deal about it, which results in attention to the bird, so the bird keeps doing it to get attention. So it's really nothing to worry about!

Macaw's have feeling in their face which is different than their feathers.

Babies at this age are starting to realize this.

If you notice, you will see your baby "Blushing" as well.

thank you for your responses. Yes i love when he blushes, but i didnt know that they are more sensitive in the face then any where else. I guess you learn something new every day.
I have owned birds, but i have never purchased a baby, and hand feeding, i LOVE it. I would love to raise baby birds. They are such amazing creatures.

I love reading about the wonderful macaws and African greys that parrot lovers are nurturing. :D I saw two beautiful 6 month old blue and gold macaws today in a pet shop nearby. They were $10,000 each.
Yes, that is correct. I live in Sydney Australia and Australia does not allow the import or export of birds. That means that what we have to rely on the small amount of breeder to sell their babies and they ask top prices.
Enjoy your birds I am so envious.

I've heard that B&G's were down to $7,000, although those are probably breeder pricers. Still, they are coming down, so perhaps in some more years, and if your lucky, someone will be able to legally import some more breeding stock so the prices can come down a little further!
