help finding a macaw

Postby macawsrule on Tue Apr 28, 2009 5:30 pm

Hi to those that took the time to read my post and ty.
i'm new here so i hope i'm not out of line or asking in the wrong spot .i used to have a macaw b+g but got in a severe automobile accident 5 years ago and had to send my bird with my sister who i trusted or at least thought i could trust..but she sold my bird to a pet store for 400 hundred dollars .if my leg wasn't in a cast at the time i woulda kicked the hot mess out of her . i went as far as asking the pet store who they sold the bird to but they refused to tell me . even after i told them that it was my bird they asked if i had papers on my bird, wich i did not .
i was given my bird through a friend in ny before i moved here to louisiana .
the police told me the same thing no papers or as they said reciept no bird...
i miss my macaw like crazy. but i have given up hope of ever seeing her again.i have been looking to buy or adopt another macaw but not sure where to do so in louisiana .if anybody knows of a place in louisiana where i could buy or adopt a macaw it would greatly be appreciated .

    David,

Check out the babies on here or google rescues or try petfinder. You should come up with something I would think.

Are you still in contact with the friend who you received the B&G originally from? Would they be willing to testify in court that you were given the bird and the time frame? What about any vet visits as that would also help establish ownership.

Just how long was the bird with your sister? You could have a problem where she claims it was abandoned property and property is how the courts look at it, sorry. Was anyone else present when you and your sister made the agreement for her keeping it and for how long? Depending on what type of proof you have you could take her to small claims court, establish owner ship and then with that behind you force the pet shop to release the information who they sold it to. Boy, have I been watching too many of these Judge shows!

The one thing I would want to caution you on is how long has the bird been with the new family. The bird had already come to you from your friend, then was at your sister's, followed by the pet shop where hopefully has bonded to a new family. That poor baby has been through a lot.

Maybe your sister should just give you the money she got from the pet shop if she hasn't already yet.

    Good luck.
