Reguritating Macaw

Postby Sherri01 on Sat Apr 04, 2009 5:30 pm

I have just recently gotten a harlequin macaw. Her name is Sunny and she is about 1 1/2 to 2 years old. I have noticed when she eats she later reguritates her food.
It is rather gross. I have went online and tried finding infomation about this but I am unsure whether this is something that all parrots do or if she may have a problem. I have read that reguritating could mean a yeast infection in their crops or just a sign of affection. I don't believe she is doing it as a sign of affection because of the fact that she is always on the top of her cage where I can not reach her. Can anyone help me out and maybe give me a little more about what if any other signs there might be of a yeast infection in her crop. Thanks for any help you may give me.

Take her to an avian vet and have her crop tested to be sure. Besides she needs a vet check anyway as you said you just got her. While she's there you might have the vet do her beak and toes, they both look like they are on the long side.

P.S.- She looks like a Catalina to me

I will be taking her to a vet as I can not cut her toe nails cause I am not completely comfortable with her yet. I don't know how to trim beaks that will certainly have to be done by a vet. As far as her being a Catalina I can see where you may get confused they are so much alike in appearance. I assure you she is a harlequin macaw. Her parents were a greenwing and a blue and gold macaw. I do know some things about birds but I do however know the different breeds.
