It's been a LONG time since I've been here. I hope that someone can help me answer this question.
Background:
I have a breeding pair of two Normal Green Peachface Lovebirds . . .both carry a recessive gene for the Dutch Blue variety. This is their 6th clutch in the last 5 years. On rare occasions they have a chick that is lighter in skin color than the normal Green chicks. Their down is usually a different color as well. Yellow vs white. In those cases the bird usually turns out to be a dutch blue variety.
Here is my question:
In my recent clutch I have 4 birds ALL with a very pink skin tone. Three have a very yellow down, and one with a white/grey down with the same pink skin color as the chicks with yellow down. This is the ONLY time I have had a pink skin baby with white down. Any ideas? Can two normal Green Peachies yeild anything other than the typical Dutch blue variety.
Thanks for your wisdom!
Jim
